Synopsis
The film is based on the true story of the Burt family, who appeared to be normal, upstanding members of the community but were deeply involved in criminal activity. The family matriarch took in foster children, many of whom were later molested and abused by her husband and children. Additionally, she kept a woman enslaved and imprisoned in the basement for over twenty years. The woman's daughter eventually reached out to Rhode Island Attorney General David Morwitz, who helped expose the abuses occurring within the Burt household.
