Franziska is deeply invested in her bright grandson Tobias's well-being, which is why she becomes increasingly concerned when his school performance begins to decline. Silke, Tobias's mother and a practical woman from a modest background, is less alarmed by the situation. She does not aim to raise Tobias as a bookworm and is instead frustrated by what she sees as her grandmother's overindulgence of the child. As tensions rise, the two women grow more entrenched in their positions. Following a heated argument, Silke takes the drastic step of banning Franziska from having any contact with Tobias. Refusing to accept this decision, Franziska takes the matter to court.
