Synopsis
In the early 18th century, cartographer Jonathan Green embarks on a scientific expedition from Europe to the East. After traveling through Transylvania and crossing the Carpathian Mountains, he arrives at a remote village deep within an impassable forest. His arrival is the result of chance and thick fog. The villagers are unlike any people he has encountered before. Having dug a deep moat to isolate themselves from the outside world, they hold a misguided belief that they can protect themselves from evil, unaware that it has already taken root within them and awaits the moment to spread beyond their borders.

Why 2.5×?
Cinemas keep roughly half of every ticket sold, and a wide release’s marketing often costs about as much again as the film — so a movie needs to gross around 2.5× its production budget just to break even theatrically. It’s a rule of thumb, not the studio’s ledger (home video and streaming come later).
