Synopsis

In a freshwater pond, the cycle of predation is constant. A dragonfly larva consumes a midge, while a water beetle larva preys on a damselfly larva. Snail larvae continue to develop, with one being eaten by another beetle larva. A close-up view reveals the feeding mechanism of a damselfly larva, which features a retractable hook beneath its mandibles. Some organisms bite and chew, while others use suction. A water beetle larva clings to its prey, injecting a toxin that liquefies the internal organs, allowing it to suck out the contents. We observe one such larva consuming a damselfly larva and then another water beetle larva. Some species use clever strategies to avoid detection, such as the water scorpion, which camouflages itself, and others that manage to breathe air while hunting underwater. Caddisfly larvae remain hidden among debris before attacking their prey.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 1

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
