Galician Caress (Of Clay)

The film was reconstructed and completed in 1995 by Javier Codesal for the Filmoteca de Andalucía, based on the montage and sound design Val del Omar had outlined before his death. The project had been abandoned twenty years earlier and was resumed with significant additions, particularly in the soundtrack. Val del Omar's notes indicate that, as was his usual practice, he had considered alternative titles, including "Acariño de la Terra Meiga" (Caress of the Magic Land), "Acariño a nosa terra" (Caress of Our Land), and "Barro de ánimas" (Clay of Souls). In the final phase of the unfinished project, he intended to add a second sound channel—based on the diaphonic principle and using electro-acoustic techniques—comprising ambient material recorded at the film's first screenings in the locations and among the people that were the source of its inspiration: its "clay."
