Gartxot
Synopsis
Gartxot is a twelfth-century minstrel from the Pyrenees who is exiled by the new Abbot of Roncevallis. The Abbot seeks to capture Gartxot's only son, Mikelot, and forcibly convert him into a singing monk. After being captured and tortured, the boy manages to escape and resumes singing beside his father, making Gartxot promise never to allow him to be locked up in the monastery again. Their songs become a symbol of resistance against oppression. With the help of the local people, they repeatedly evade the authorities. In the end, as the authorities surround them, Gartxot remembers his promise to his son, leading to a tragedy that is still remembered to this day.
