A World of Purity: Holy Ground is an original story in the Ghost in the Shell franchise, focusing on the sensation of entering another world by blending futuristic technology with artistic expression. Set in Japan in 2025, the story takes place in a world where technological advancements are progressing at an accelerated pace. Innovations such as "brain cyberization," which allows direct connections to information networks through the brain, and "prosthetic bodies," which enable humans to replace body parts with cybernetic ones, have become commonplace. When a bombing threat is issued to the Japanese government targeting an international meeting involving dignitaries from the Republic of Kuzan, the case is assigned to the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Section 9. Led by the full-cyborg Motoko Kusanagi, Section 9 assembles its team to track down and neutralize the terrorist.
