Grand Prix: The Killer Years

In the 1960s and early 1970s, it was common for Grand Prix drivers to be killed during races, often broadcast to millions of viewers. Mechanical failures, dangerous track designs, fires, and poor safety practices led to the deaths of dozens of young drivers. Many were seen as expendable, with eager young aspirants waiting in line at top teams to replace them. This is the story of a time when Grand Prix racing was largely out of control. Featuring several famous drivers, including three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, twice world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, and John Surtees OBE, this film explores how drivers became increasingly frustrated by the deaths of their colleagues and friends, ultimately taking steps to regain control of their own safety and future.
