Hanging Out Yonkers
Synopsis
An unfinished film by Chantal Akerman, the work focuses on troubled youths and drug addicts undergoing rehabilitation in Yonkers. Myra Alfreds, who commissioned the film, accompanies Akerman and Mangolte during the shoot in Yonkers, a city of nearly 200,000 residents in New York State, located just north of the Bronx. The film features scenes of a large storefront window used as a reception center for street youth. The young participants engage in a range of full-time activities and commit to ceasing drug use.
