Harkis
Synopsis
In 1972, deep in the forest of southern France, a family arrives at a new camp with meager belongings. Despite the camp leader's authoritarian attitude, the Harkis face a difficult existence marked by poverty and lack of freedom. Leila, the eldest daughter of the Benamar family, resists this life. At an age of rebellion and first love, she rejects the submission of her father, Saïd, a man scarred by war and exile who has grown accustomed to giving in. She holds no loyalty to the French, who had enlisted him in their army and then failed to protect them in Algeria. Through her efforts and with the help of a peasant couple, Saïd finds renewed strength, and the Benamars leave the camp to begin a new life on a nearby farm.
