“This is the living hell for heroes”
Synopsis
A World War II drama focusing on a single maneuver by a squad of GIs as they retaliate against the German Siegfried line. Reese joins a group of exhausted GIs who are unexpectedly ordered back into the line while en route to a rest area. As most of the men withdraw from their positions facing a German pillbox across a minefield, half a dozen remain to hold a wide front. Using various ruses, they manage to deceive the Germans into believing a large force is still in position. Reese then leads two men in an unauthorized and unsuccessful attack on the pillbox, during which the other two are killed. When the main platoon returns, Reese faces a threat of court-martial. Rather than accept the disgrace and to prove his point, he launches a solo attack on the pillbox.
