Himmel und Hölle

Eleven-year-old Nina and her mother, Birgit, relocate to the countryside. While Birgit adapts well to the change, Nina struggles to feel accepted until she joins a girl guide group. Nina's Religious Education teacher, the group's organizer, and the local parson are members of the fanatically pious "Legion of the Holy Angels," a sect preparing its followers for the final battle between demons and angels. When Birgit's behavior does not align with the group's expectations, Nina, believing a black kitten to be influencing her mother, sacrifices it. This action worsens the situation, as Birgit then forbids Nina from attending the scouts' sessions, leading to a loss of trust between mother and daughter. Nina's friend, Miriam, also faces rejection from the group and leaves when denied participation in an important ceremony. Nina is now confronted with a difficult decision.
