Synopsis

In connection with the opening of the famous Vienna "Riesenrad," a competition was held for the best operetta. A Czech composer, Jára Cimrman, submitted his entry, a sweeping seven-hour work titled "Proso." Due to what may have been his only negative trait—his slight stinginess—he did not send the score by registered mail, allowing Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss, Oskar Nedbal, and other members of the jury to literally tear apart the operetta's brilliant fresco. Many decades later, a team of Czech Cimrmanologists has demonstrated that the author of the world-renowned melodies from *Die Fledermaus*, *Polská krev*, and many other operettas is the long-forgotten Pojizeřan Cimrman.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 11

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
