Synopsis
Elena, a Sicilian woman and mother of three, is killed by her husband. Her cousin, Roberto, takes the three orphans under his care. Along with his wife, Anna, he assumes responsibility for raising the children, who join the couple's own two children. The adjustment of the three children to their new family situation proves difficult and tense. The financial burden on the family is significant. Roberto and Anna manage as best they can to provide for the children, while making an effort to shield them from the truth about their mother's death.
