In the current context of "reconciliation," Indigenous land continues to be taken by force. The Unist’ot’en Camp, the Gidimt’en checkpoint, and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation are resisting the Canadian government and corporations that perpetuate colonial violence against Indigenous peoples. The Unist’ot’en Camp has served as a site of resistance for nearly a decade. It functions as a space for healing for both Indigenous people and settlers, and as an active example of decolonization. The violence, environmental damage, and disregard for human rights that followed TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) / Coastal GasLink’s interim injunction have been deeply impactful, but the struggle continues.
