Synopsis
Inspired by the Folies Bergère, the iconic Paris cabaret venue, from an early age, couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier longed to stage a show there. "But what story can I tell?" he asks in this documentary chronicling the six months of preparation for the event. "Mine." The revue blends fashion with film, dance, theater, and unapologetic extravagance, offering a 40-year career retrospective of the designer often described as an enfant terrible. Known among film enthusiasts for his costumes in *The Fifth Element* and *The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover*, and among pop culture fans for designing Madonna's pointed cone bra, Gaultier also drew inspiration from teddy bears and S&M fetish elements in his designs. The show features the whimsical and audacious, including a satirical skit targeting *Vogue* editor Anna Wintour, as well as a heartfelt tribute to his partner, Francis Menuge, who passed away in 1990.
