Jennerwein

As a child, Jennerwein witnessed his father, the renowned poacher Hannes von Tirol, being shot dead by the royal gamekeeper Mayr in front of his mother. Despite his mother's efforts to protect him from a similar fate, Jennerwein chose to follow in his father's path. Alongside his friend Pföderl, he defied the royal hunters. In the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, Tyrol and Bavaria were plunged into severe poverty. In such difficult times, anyone who managed to provide meat became both a folk hero and a target for the authorities. Mayr turned his attention to Jennerwein and Pföderl. Observing that both were in love with the same woman, Agerl, he exploited their feelings to incite jealousy.
