Julia und der Offizier
Synopsis
In 1964, young Julia Welling is sent to Bavaria to establish and manage a home for children. Seeking to distance herself from her father's past as a member of the Nazi party, Julia is committed to promoting democratic values and treating children as whole persons. Her initial days in Bavaria are challenging due to the conservative nature of the local community; when she intervenes to stop parents from beating their children, her actions are met with confusion and resistance. She meets a young American officer who is overseeing the conclusion of US occupation forces in Germany; he assists her in securing a former military installation for her new children's home. Julia successfully sets up the home and begins her work, but one night a violent farmer attempts to burn down the building after she intervenes to protect his son.
