Karen Blixen: An African Night Dream

Karen Blixen, born Karen Christenze Dinesen on April 17, 1885, in Rungsted, Denmark, was a Danish author and baroness known for her memoir *Out of Africa*, which recounts her life in Kenya during the early 20th century. She moved to Kenya in 1914 with her husband, Baron Bror Blixen-Finecke, and lived on a coffee plantation near Nairobi. After the marriage ended in divorce in 1921, she continued to live in Kenya for several years before returning to Denmark in 1931. Her time in Africa inspired much of her writing, including *Out of Africa*, published in 1937, which was later adapted into a critically acclaimed film in 1985. Blixen also wrote several other books, including *Seven Gothic Tales* and *The Happy Prince*, and her work is often associated with the literary and cultural history of colonial Kenya. She died on September 7, 1962, in Rungsted.
