Kosovo: Can You Imagine?

Kosovo: Can You Imagine? explores the experiences of Serbs living in Kosovo and the challenges they face in terms of human rights in the 21st century. Many Kosovo Serbs were displaced during the ethnic cleansing carried out by Albanians, who constitute the majority in Kosovo. Since 1999, Kosovo has been under United Nations administration following a 76-day NATO bombing campaign against Serbia aimed at stopping a crackdown on ethnic Albanian separatism in the region. In the years after the conflict, thousands of Serbs were expelled from their homes, some kidnapped and killed, while their houses, cultural and religious sites were burned or destroyed. Kosovo holds a significance for Serbs similar to that of Jerusalem for Jews, as it is considered the birthplace of their statehood, culture, and religion. Many important Serbian Christian Orthodox monasteries are located in Kosovo. Today, Serbs maintain a deep spiritual and traditional connection to the region, which has been largely stripped of Serbian presence.
