In the midst of the conflict in Syria and Northern Iraq, where forces associated with ISIS and the Assad regime have devastated villages and communities, a group of courageous and idealistic women have taken up arms to resist them, achieving notable victories. These women, part of the "Free Women’s Party," hail from diverse backgrounds, including Paris, Turkish Kurdistan, and other global locations. Their goal is to establish a democratic Syria grounded in principles of gender equality. Their movement has historical roots in the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey, dating back over 40 years. *GIRL’S WAR* pays tribute to Sakine Cansiz, a co-founder of the PKK who was assassinated in Paris in 2013, and highlights the sacrifices made by women in the movement, who have faced imprisonment, sexual violence, war, and persecution in their struggle to free themselves and other women from patriarchal control. The film showcases moments of solidarity, strength, and affection among these female fighters, offering a compelling portrayal of Middle Eastern feminism in active conflict zones.
