L'oeil du diable
Synopsis
On his birthday, Meyer receives an unusual gift: a wooden sculpture of a devil with a demonic and mischievous appearance. He smiles, recognizing it as a typical art object from Bessans, a village in Savoie. He calls Constance, convinced that she sent him the devil for his birthday. However, he is in for a surprise: not only was Constance unaware it was his birthday, but she is also dealing with a frozen corpse found on the French side of the border, locked inside an isolated chapel in the mountains. In the victim's backpack is a carved wooden devil. The situation is not a murder in the traditional sense, but the circumstances remain unclear—was the victim locked in by accident, or did the door close and jam shut after a gust of wind? Having received the same wooden devil, Meyer decides to get involved in the investigation.
