Oriana Fallaci was born on June 22, 1929, in Florence, Italy. She began her career in journalism in the 1950s and quickly gained recognition for her sharp, often controversial commentary. Fallaci became known for her unapologetic and provocative style, which challenged political and social norms. She contributed to several prominent Italian publications, including *Il Corriere della Sera* and *La Repubblica*. Fallaci also authored numerous books, many of which were bestsellers and translated into multiple languages. Her works often focused on political and religious figures, including her interviews with Fidel Castro, Yasser Arafat, and Pope John Paul II. In 1996, she won the prestigious Strega Prize for her book *Achille e la Tartaruga*. Fallaci was a vocal critic of Islam and controversial for her strong opinions on immigration and Western values. She died on September 15, 2006, in Florence.
