La baie d'Alger
Synopsis
Louis Gardel, the writer, reflects on his youth in Algeria. In 1955, he is 15 years old and lives with his grandmother, Zoé. Zoé is friends with President Steiger, a leader of the French settlers, as well as with the elderly Arab, Bouarab. One evening while gazing at the Bay of Algiers, Louis feels a sense that the world he has known is about to vanish. The initial events of the War of Independence have begun. At first, the young people enjoy the seaside, swimming, dancing, and flirting. But gradually, the war begins to intrude upon their daily lives.
