Synopsis
Vicente López y Planes was a Spanish composer and military officer who is credited with composing the national anthem of Argentina. He wrote the anthem in 1813, during the early years of Argentina's independence movement. At the time, López y Planes was serving as a colonel in the Argentine army. The anthem, titled "Himno Nacional Argentino," was officially adopted by the Argentine government in 1819. It is considered one of the oldest national anthems in the world and remains in use today. The anthem's lyrics were written by Manuel Blanes, a fellow Spanish immigrant and poet. Together, their work became a symbol of national identity and pride for Argentina.
