Synopsis
In 1877 in Montelusa, Sicily, Italy, Giovanni Bovara is appointed chief inspector of the mills and tasked with collecting a harsh tax. Born in Sicily but raised in Liguria, Bovara thinks and speaks like a man of northern Italy and fails to grasp the unspoken rules that govern Sicilian society. His rigid enforcement of the tax quickly earns him many enemies.
