La vela incantata

Set in the late 1920s, *The Time of the Locusts* follows Angelo and Tonino, two brothers who travel across Italy in a dilapidated truck, screening films for any audience willing to pay. Upon reaching Emilia-Romagna, Angelo begins a relationship with a wealthy marchesa associated with the fascist movement, while Tonino becomes drawn to Giovanni, a rebellious figure imprisoned for his anti-fascist activities, and to the farmers who have joined the resistance. As the anti-fascist fighters are either executed or imprisoned, Tonino grows increasingly committed to their cause, especially after Giovanni is killed. During a screening of a silent film depicting the condemned and dying Christ, Tonino interrupts the projection to display slides he has taken, revealing the identity of Giovanni's murderer, forcing his brother and the onlookers to confront where their loyalties truly lie.
