Synopsis
Four lesbian comedians, each a woman, perform stand-up comedy and share offstage conversations about their lives, including their relationships with their parents, childhood experiences, coming out, the transition into comedy, and the progression of their careers and its rewards. Marga Gómez, who is Cuban-Puerto Rican and from New York City, draws material from cultural differences, her hobby of horseback riding, and National Coming Out Day. Kate Clinton, a lapsed Catholic, finds humor in religious themes and the comedy of the sex act. Karen Williams, an African-American from Berkeley, discusses aging and the importance of telling her story. Suzanne Westenhoefer, who inherits her grandfather's sense of humor, makes jokes about Martha Stewart and airport security. Each comedian takes the power of humor seriously, using it as a means to reveal what is at the core of her identity.
