Synopsis
*Dangerous Liaisons* by Choderlos de Laclos, published in 1782, is well known for its exploration of seduction and revenge. The novel caused a scandal upon its initial release, yet it became a top-seller, both despite and because of the controversy. Over time, it has stood the test of time and has been adapted across various eras, continents, and cultures around the world. The work functions as a tool for reflection on the female condition, a social satire that foreshadows the Revolution, a study of the conflicting nature of love and the gender war, and a demonstration of the power of words. It is also seen as a manual of libertinism, among other interpretations.
