Les sandales blanches
Synopsis
The story begins in the early 1960s in a slum on the outskirts of Paris, home to Algerian immigrants. At age five, Malika receives a new pair of white sandals from her mother, which she admires so much that she fails to notice a reversing truck. The incident leads to years of hospital stays, surgeries, and hardship. During this time, far from her family, the young Muslim girl, cared for by Catholic nurses and nuns, discovers music and singing during mass. From this moment, she pursues her dream despite facing racism in French society and enduring prejudices within her own community, ultimately becoming the woman known as "the diva of the ghetto."
