Lorna Doone

In 1675, England is on the brink of religious and political turmoil. King Charles II's Catholic brother, James, is the heir to the throne, yet many Protestants look to Charles's illegitimate son, the Duke of Monmouth, as their preferred successor. With the king's death looming, conflict seems inevitable. Far from the political tensions of London, Exmoor, a remote and lawless region seven days' journey away, remains a place of harsh simplicity. There, farmer Jack Ridd lives with his wife Sarah, their son John, and two daughters. The only threat to their quiet existence comes from the feared outlaw family, the Doones. Once aristocrats, the Doones were exiled from their ancestral lands and now survive through looting, theft, and murder, their cruelty well known.
