Synopsis
Lost Book Found is the result of over five years of Super-8 and 16mm filming on New York City streets, blending documentary and narrative into a meditation on urban life. The film centers on a mysterious notebook filled with detailed listings of places, objects, and incidents, which act as a key to uncovering a hidden city—composed of overlooked geographies and layered artifacts, including remnants of low-level capitalism and the debris of forgotten stories. The project originated from the filmmaker's first job in New York, working as a pushcart vendor on Canal Street. As is typical, Cohen filmed in hundreds of locations using discreet equipment and often without a crew. The work was influenced by the writings of Walter Benjamin.
