Manon on the Asphalt

In the early summer, a day unfolds with routine activities: two young men play squash, a lifeguard keeps watch over an indoor pool, a young woman organizes books at a store, another entertains children with a puppet show in a park, and an older woman cooks. Manon, meanwhile, rides her bicycle to meet her boyfriend. She turns a corner, and something occurs. She falls to the asphalt, and a crowd gathers as an ambulance arrives. Her voice is heard, initially confused about the incident, then conveying how her friends and mother will be informed and how her friends will come together to talk. As the narrative shifts between past and present, Manon recalls recent moments and expresses minor regrets.
