Synopsis

Set in a summer weekend at a country house near Sintra, Portugal, the story follows fourteen-year-old Nicolau as he spends a few days with his older brother, Simão, and his group of friends, who are in their late twenties. All are drawn to the serene and attractive Maria do Mar, though Nicolau is the one whose life is most profoundly affected by her presence. As he balances schoolwork and climbing trees, he listens to stories about a philandering deceased grandfather and the origins of the tortellini's shape, while also witnessing a friend in costume dealing with a broken heart and engaging in seductive games. Through these experiences, Nicolau observes the dynamics of this group of young adults.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 14

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
