Marian, Again

Chris Bevan is a school teacher and devoted, if unexciting, husband to his wife, Josie, and father to his ungrateful daughters. His best friend is aware that Chris's true emotional attachment lies with Marian, his lively and carefree former fiancée, who vanished under mysterious circumstances years ago. When Chris unexpectedly spots her in a shop, he follows her, but ultimately gives up when he realizes she has taken on a new identity as the wife of plumber Bernie Sullivan. Bernie is passionate about Houdini-style "real" magic, but in reality, Marian is his frightened captive, forced to take the place of his deceased assistant. Meanwhile, one of Bevan's daughters is secretly engaged in a phone-based relationship that Chris has strictly forbidden, believing it to be dangerous in principle, despite the fact that it is genuine and connected to Marian's predicament.
