Synopsis
Deep in Russia lies a town named Marks, after Karl Marx, the founder of Communist theory. In this town, all the residents work in a toy factory and are paid in toys instead of money. News from outside the town is extremely rare. One morning, Boris, a former boxer fleeing from an unknown past, wakes up on a train and sees the letters MAR_S. As he begins to explore the town, he meets new people, including Gregori, a young man with dreams of a better life and who is in love with Greta, the local librarian, who also dreams of escaping the town. With each new encounter, Boris finds himself drawn deeper into the lives of the townspeople, though his past continues to haunt him.
