Irene Lieblich is an idealistic midwife who believes that if one has the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream, one should not hesitate and must seize the opportunity. Her dream is to open her own birth center, and she has already identified the perfect location for it: a beautifully situated property on the outskirts of a picturesque Bavarian town. The project appears to be on solid ground—the application has been submitted to the local council, building finance is secured through an unexpected inheritance, and Irene has rented a small terraced house for herself and her nine-year-old daughter, Katja. However, her plans are suddenly thrown into uncertainty when another interested party, funeral director Siegfried Schroff, also appears. He, too, has a dream for the property: to open a private cemetery in the rural idyll.
