Meltdown: Days of Destruction

Despite scientist Nathan's warnings, his boss continues an experiment intended as publicity for his satellite firm: detonating an asteroid. Instead, the asteroid splits, and the largest piece, the size of Iceland, changes course toward Earth. It is deflected but comes so close that it alters Earth's trajectory, bringing the planet closer to the sun and causing rapid, extreme heating, presumably only for the mid-term. Nathan warns his sister, TV journalist Carly, who in turn informs her lover, police detective Tom. Tom brings his unruly daughter Kim, her ex-con boyfriend C.J., and Kim's mother, nurse Bonnie, when Nathan offers them a flight to a friend's Arctic weather station. Tom takes charge of a dangerous journey to the airport, as fires break out everywhere on Earth and people fight over water, transportation, and looted supplies.
