Katrin is an ambitious product designer who is overwhelmed by the demands of her job, household, and two children. She lives with her husband, Jan, and their children in an idyllic home in Berlin. When Jan reveals that his company has gone bankrupt, Katrin is forced to take on a major, thankless contract for the sanitary facilities of a design hotel. Juggling children, housework, and work, Katrin quickly reaches her breaking point. By chance, she discovers a computer online that can be configured to resemble her. When the android arrives, it looks exactly like her—and initially helps with her daily tasks. The android, named "Kate," even does the shopping at incredible speed and independently. Over time, "Kate" begins to display human-like traits. When she makes a romantic advance toward Jan, it becomes clear that the unwelcome guest must be removed.
