Synopsis
The Parker Solar Probe is a NASA mission launched in August 2018 to study the sun. Its primary objective is to explore the solar corona and investigate the processes that heat the corona and accelerate the solar wind. The probe is named after Eugene Parker, a physicist who first theorized the existence of the solar wind. Designed to withstand extreme temperatures, the spacecraft uses a heat shield to protect its instruments while flying closer to the sun than any previous mission. The mission aims to provide valuable data on solar activity, helping scientists better understand space weather and its effects on Earth.
