Monsieur Lazhar
An Algerian refugee becomes a substitute teacher at a Montreal elementary school, determined to guide grieving children through their trauma while concealing his own painful past and precarious asylum status, risking both his safety and the students' fragile hope.

Synopsis
In the middle of a severe winter in Montréal, an elementary school class is deeply affected when their teacher takes her own life. To help the children cope, Bachir Lazhar, a charismatic Algerian immigrant, is brought in as a substitute teacher. As he works with the traumatized students, he keeps his personal circumstances private, including the fact that he is seeking political asylum in Québec and has also endured a devastating personal loss.
