Synopsis
Simon Atkins embarks on a personal journey for BBC Three, exploring different religious attitudes toward being gay. He seeks to determine whether Judaism is more tolerant of his sexuality than his Catholic faith, questioning if it is truly better to stick with the devil he knows. A Roman Catholic, Simon became disillusioned upon realizing that, as a gay man, he could not marry in the eyes of God. His religion had not significantly affected his lifestyle until he met his Jewish boyfriend, Matthew, whose synagogue permits same-sex marriage. In this one-off documentary, Simon undertakes a personal mission to discover whether, as a gay man, he could convert to Judaism and whether it is worth sacrificing his Catholic upbringing.
