Synopsis

In 1942, a shy boy in Yazoo City, Mississippi struggles to make friends until his parents give him a terrier puppy for his ninth birthday. He names the dog Skip, and the two quickly form a bond. As Skip becomes a beloved figure in the community, the boy, Willie, finds companionship and support through his growing-up years, with the dog enriching his life as he transitions into manhood.
