Synopsis

Frank Lehmann, 20, continues to live with his parents in the bleak high-rise housing project "Neue Vahr" in Bremen. It is the year 1980, and Frank is conscripted into the army, despite his friends' belief that "he's not really the guy for it." Upon returning home after his first week in the military, he discovers that his father has converted his room into a TV repair shop, forcing Frank to move out. Fortunately, his old friend Martin is establishing a commune with two other punks in Bremen's leftist district "Viertel." Without hesitation, Frank rents an unlivable walk-through room there. From that point on, Frank becomes a traveler between two worlds. Each week, he moves from the army, with its rigid rules and regulations, to the commune, where his friends advocate for world revolution. Frank attempts to avoid standing out, but fails in both worlds.
