Night Will Fall
Synopsis
When Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps in 1944–45, their harrowing discoveries were captured by army and newsreel cameramen, offering the first public glimpse of the full horror of the atrocities committed. Using British, Soviet, and American footage, the Ministry of Information’s Sidney Bernstein (later founder of Granada Television) sought to produce a documentary that would serve as enduring, irrefutable evidence of the Nazis’ crimes. He enlisted a range of British talent, including editor Stewart McAllister, writer and future cabinet minister Richard Crossman, and, as treatment advisor, his friend Alfred Hitchcock. Despite initial backing from the British and U.S. governments, the film was ultimately shelved. Now, 70 years later, it has been restored and completed by the Imperial War Museums under its original title, *German Concentration Camps Factual Survey*.

How many hands made this film
The scale of the collaboration
Principal cast & crew: 18
These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.
Why a floor?
This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
