Synopsis

The situation in Iraq following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003 was marked by a series of critical missteps, particularly in the spring of that year. The U.S.-led coalition entered the country without a comprehensive plan for the occupation, leaving a power vacuum in its wake. The team responsible for governing the country was widely regarded as inadequate, lacking the experience and resources necessary to manage the complex political and social landscape. Additionally, the number of troops deployed was insufficient to maintain order, contributing to growing instability. Shortly after taking control, Paul Bremmer, acting as the head of the Coalition Provisional Authority, issued three controversial edicts that had significant and lasting effects on Iraq's institutions and economy.
