Nova Zembla
Synopsis
Gerrit de Veer, a novice writer aboard a 16th‑century Dutch merchant vessel, records an expedition aimed at finding a trade route across the North Pole to Asia. The voyage becomes disastrous when the ship becomes trapped in persistent ice. The crew spends the winter on the frozen Arctic region of Nova Zembla, confronting polar bears, hunger and extreme cold, with their prospects for survival until the following spring being extremely low.
