On Top Down Under
Synopsis
Set in Iceland, "On Top" features a lighthouse on a cold winter evening. Her thoughts drift back to that summer, to bathing in the hot springs, and to when they first met and embraced. In Australia, "Down Under" presents the desert during a blistering heat wave. His pickup stops at an icehouse, where he lays the blocks neatly on the buckboard before driving off, haunted by an aching memory. Without dialogue or comment, except for verses from a sonnet by John Keats, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson connects the thoughts, emotions, and sensual longing of young lovers at opposite ends of the world. The film is described as a tone poem and a collage of sight and sound.
