Synopsis

The second television adaptation of *Once Upon a Mattress* aired on December 12, 1972, on CBS. This color videotaped production featured original Broadway cast members Carol Burnett, Harvey K. Smith as Gilford, and Tim Conway as White, alongside Bernadette Peters as Lady Larken, Ken Berry as Prince Dauntless, Ron Husmann as Harry, and Wally Cox as The Jester. It was directed by Ron Field and Dave Powers. As with previous adaptations, several songs were omitted and characters were combined or modified. The roles of the Minstrel and the Wizard were removed from this version, prompting the addition of a new prologue in which Burnett performed "Many Moons Ago" as a bedtime story.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 18

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
