Perry Mason: The Case of the Glass Coffin

David Katz is a renowned magician who arrives in Denver with his troupe to perform at a charity gala for disabled children. Perry and Della are also in attendance, as all three are supporters of the cause. Kate Ford, an arrogant assistant, informs David that she will perform an illusion in which an assistant is placed in a glass coffin, only to disappear when it is opened in the air (with the assistant climbing out before the coffin is raised). After a brief romantic encounter with David, Kate becomes pregnant and uses this to blackmail him. David and his wife Judy are unable to have children, making the situation especially painful for them. Kate's behavior causes resentment among the rest of the group. During the gala, the glass coffin is raised and opened, but instead of disappearing, Kate's strangled body falls to the ground.
